Limits and Challenges in the Evolution of Museums in Romania at the Beginning of the 21st Century

Summary/Abstract: Discussions regarding the role and evolutions of museums are not new. In the last decades, the cultural, political, social and economic changes positioned the museum in a tight place, where the need of change and the ways and means of these changes intersected in a complex web of past, present and future issues. The present paper desires to map the evolution and working frame of museums, especially of the Romanian museums, to adapt and integrate their activity in the new requirements of the society and digital age. On the other hand, the paper puts some emphasis on the structural issues and the limitations created by the social, political and economic contexts.
