Summary/Abstract: The following study deals with the historic challenge of analyzing the most important ways used by Romanian Communist Party to increase the external image of Socialist Romania. We underlined especially the political interest connected to the propaganda effort. In fact, there is no strong demarcation line between political and propagandistic contents and cultural contents during the process of external discourse. We also detected the implication of numerous writers and journalists in the effort of Romania’s turistic and cultural promotion. During the Ceausescu’s era (regime) the image of RSR seconded the image of the communist leader. Another main idea deals with the propaganda for foreigner guests and the tourist was also used as an instrument for communist legitimacy. There is another important fact regarding the procedure of involving and subordinating the Romanian writers and journalists to the Communist Party interest. This interest regards the aim of regime self consolidation and further elevation, during the Cold War confrontation.
