Summary/Abstract: The avars and ancient slavs played an important role in VI-VII century at the Lower Danube, becoming a big threat to the Bizantine Empire. The avars managed to built a big confederation at the north of the Lower Danube dominating the slavs and other barbarians. The numerous attacks towards the Thracian Peninsula weakened the position of the empire. This article studies the relations between the ancient slavs and avars in VI-VII century in written and archaeological sources.
