Summary/Abstract: Anyone wishing to conduct archaeoastronomical research must be familiar with the basic concepts of spherical astronomy, the movements of the Sun and the Moon, the precessional movement of the Earth's axis, and the long-term changes in the appearance of the starry sky. This article examines the acceptable accuracy with which the orientation of archaeological sites, believed to have served as solar observatories in antiquity, can be analyzed. The reasons that lead to a slight change in the azimuths of sunrises and sunsets on the days of the solstices after long periods of time are also looked at in the article, as well as the possibility to dating archaeoastronomical objects based on this change.
