Summary/Abstract: Bulgarian pop music has walked and is still walking the path of its integration into the world music scene. This path is strewn with many challenges and pitfalls of sudden democratization, among them the still-searching for belonging and definition. In this report, we examine one of the “childhood diseases” of Bulgarian pop music – the problems with prosody in Bulgarian pop songs, leading to the shifting of word accents. Why is confused prosody so common? Where are the roots of the problems and what are the errors dictated by? These are the questions to which this text seeks the answer within the analysis of contemporary popular songs, historical context, and analysis of the situation in the Bulgarian show business.
