Summary/Abstract: If applied correctly, the pedagogical approach of student-centredness has the potential to bring benefits for students, teachers and the institution. It seems reasonable to suggest that integrating students as part of the academic community, developing motivation to learn, encouraging independence and responsibility in learning, and taking into account the different needs of students, all have the potential to benefit students. Teachers may also benefit from a student-centred approach. They may find it an interesting and rewarding role, as they facilitate learning rather than simply imparting knowledge. It can also help to manage the challenges of student diversity and numbers. Furthermore, it encourages continuous professional development. At an institutional level, student-centredness can help to improve the quality of education, make studies more attractive, reduce dropout rates and promote a culture of lifelong learning.Student-centred learning can be seen as both a mindset and a culture in a given higher education institution. It is an approach to learning that is largely related to and underpinned by constructivist theories of learning. It is characterised by innovative teaching methods which aim to promote learning in communication with teachers and other learners. It also views students as active participants in their own learning, fostering transferable skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and reflective thinking.
