Summary/Abstract: Feedback has an important role in promoting autonomous learning and influencing student learning outcomes. To become autonomous, students need to regularly monitor their learning, be aware of their learning objectives, know their learning needs and seek strategies to address them. The best learners are those who can self-regulate their style of approaching tasks, engaging with tasks, setting and adjusting their goals, using ways to manage difficult learning problems and even creating new ones. As part of autonomous learning, feedback is used to check that learners understand the task, to help them as they approach the problem, to correct their mistakes and to improve their performance. Its main purpose is to modify the autonomous learning process, which can enable a student to achieve expected or desired outcomes.
