Summary/Abstract: The Migration Period and the Early Middle Ages are considered historical eras marked by violence, which are not yet fully known to us. After their arrival, the Avars managed to form an important power that played a big role in the events of the VI-VIIth centuries in the east and center of the European continent. This barbarian confederation arose in a relatively short time after which the Avars began to attack the border and the Middle and Lower Danube provinces. The present approach aims to analyze the literary sources regarding the arrival of the Avars in the Pannonian Plain in the 6th century and the image of the nomads reflected in the ancient sources.
