Summary/Abstract: The period of “emerging adulthood” (Arnett, 2000) is defined as the transition period between adolescence and early adulthood (18-25/30). During this intermediate stage, some of the unresolved tasks of adolescence overlap with the tasks of early adulthood. The period is characterized by many opportunities, but also by uncertainty and instability. Research indicates that emerging adulthood is probably one of the most difficult periods in a lifespan. In the present study, results are presented on the interrelationships of the dimensions of emerging adulthood with the level of stress, anxiety, self-mastery, and goal setting. For the purposes of the study are used the emerging adulthood inventory of Reifman and colleagues (Reifman, et al., 2007), a short version of a scale for depressive symptoms, anxiety and stress (Karabelova, Stoyanova, 2022), a scale of goal instability (Patton, McMahon, 2006; Karabelova, Doreva, 2010) and self-mastery scale (Pearlin, Schooler, 1978) The study was conducted on a sample of 113 subjects between the ages of 18 and 30 (X=21.66; SD=2.795), 27 of the participants are men and 86 - women. The Negativity/Instability scale was found to be positively associated with higher levels of stress and anxiety, and negatively with the Self-mastery and Goal Setting scales. The Self-Focused scale was positively associated with low levels of stress and anxiety, as well as high levels of self-mastery and goal setting. The obtained results complement the theory of “emerging adulthood”.
