Summary/Abstract: The change in the educational paradigmtowards autonomyhas significantly transformed the roleof the teacher. Currently, his/her tasksgo beyond imparting knowledge – the teacher supportsthe development of key competences, promotes autonomous attitudesand adapts work methodsto the individual needsof students, integrating moderntechnologies. However, is thistheoretical imagereflected in reality?Do teachers reallysupport the development of student independenceby providing didactic and emotional support? The aimof this article is to encourage readersto reflect on how far thetheoretical image of the teacherpresented in the literature isreflected in realityin contemporary educational practice,showing the changing natureof the teacher's role and the growingexpectations towards them.
