Summary/Abstract: The pastoral care of people with intellectual disabilities, like all other pastoral activities of the Church, is based on Divine Revelation and the Magisterium of the Church. This work presents the theological foundations of the pastoral care of people who, at first glance, may for some people be excluded from pastoral care due to their lack of full discernment. The first chapter presented the Trinitarian foundations. The source of care for people with intellectual disabilities is the love of the Holy Trinity and the fact that the Three Divine Persons give this love to every person, regardless of their mental abilities. Then the Christological foundations of this pastoral ministry were discussed. They are based on the continuation of Christʼs saving mission. The pneumatological foundations described in the third chapter result from the fact that after baptism, every person becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit and, therefore, is equally endowed with gifts, the greatest of which is love. The last, ecclesiological foundations, are related to the Churchʼs concern for the salvation of every person, regardless of their health condition or disability.
