Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the ecological imagination of one of the most important authors ofavant-garde literature and theory in Poland. Set in an urban context, Peiper created hisliterary works around a program of modernization and urbanization. The article describessuch ecological elements as the attitude to the modern urban environment, the roleof nature (urban greenery), the structure of relations between organisms inhabitingthis environment. Karpowicz juxtaposes Peiper’s concepts with other avant-gardeprojects, along with contemporary press discourse and official state policy. The articlepays particular attention to the reasons for the gradual erosion of the admiration forurbanization in Peiper’s work and implicit anxiety or sense of threat underlying his urbanutopia.
