Summary/Abstract: Based on a ad libitum college students sample (N=694), our survey highlighted the fact that they accepted to a larger extent the capitalist justice, based on the equitable distribution of resources, rather than the socialist justice, based on egalitarian principles. This points toward a few peculiarities of postcommunist transition in Romania: a certain inertia of menthality regarding the role of the state in the economy, the lack of equal opportunities for all the citizens as well as the existence of an overwhelmingly negative projection on wealth differences. The other findings of the study, concern gender differences in perception of justice (the female students accepted to a larger extent the principle of equality in comparison with the male students), as well as the differences due to the degree pursued. We situated our data in a comparative perspective, using data from surveys based on the same methodology in 1991 in developed capitalist countries: (former) West Germany, Great Britain, USA, as well as the data from 1996 from five former communist countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Russia and Hungary.
