Periodization of psychosociology

Summary/Abstract: The emergence and evolution of social psychology have generated competing points of view. It is the authors opinion that social psychology (or, as sometimes named psychosociology) has been constituted as a science when the method of controled experiment (accompanied by a causal model for the data gathered this way) began to be used. This has been the case for Norman Triplett, with his experiments in 1898, rather than with Max Ringelmann, who is often invoked as the first experimentalist in psychosociology. The periodisation of the discipline is also often debated. In this version, along with the American and European traditions, the historical development of the discipline in Romania is presented. The material is structured into five stages: (1) the prehistory (6th Century B.C. through 19th Century A.D.); (2) the Emergence (1880-1934); (3) the Classic Period (1935-1960); (4) the Modern Period (1961-1989); (5) the Contemporary Period (1990-...).
