Summary/Abstract: The competitiveness is a dimension of the larger issue of productivity. The paper presents an original design for the analysis of the productivity of an economic entity in a widened relational systemic approach. The conceptual starting point is the Physiocratic and Classical liberal conception concerning productivity, in conjunction with the service economy. The analysis uses and promotes some earlier research by the author on productivity, putting them in the context of the relations of a company, organization or nation, with other entities in the EU. Interesting specific issues and unusual conclusions come out, which are dictated in the approach of the generalized concept of service and of servicity. The analysis is focused on issues of principle with the wider conceptual domain of validity. Productivity differences fall within the valuation differences of resources, development and standard of living, despite the performed service. Here results the necessity of developing the European design on cohesion, of reconsidering the common performance indicators – at least at the national and EU’s levels – and the duty of economics to reassess the approach concerning market competitiveness and productivity.
