Summary/Abstract: Fortress Ždrelo was military, religious and administrative center of wast and jagged district (župa). Near the fortress was placed market Šetonje, that played rolle of economic center of district. Mining and smelting of iron and copper for local needs have boosted trade. Monasterys Drenča and Gornjak gained land and villages in possession in that area. However, raising of the fort of Ždrelo was based on its military importance. Together with nearby district of Omolj, Ždrelo was the spot of the great importance for defending Serbian state from the north and east. With Petrus krajište on its South frontier, Ždrelo geographical was part of the system of krajišta, borderlands, that defend the whole East border of the Serbien state in the late XIV century. It is very likely was krajišt itself, too. Archaeological research proved that in fort was present grand duke in the beginning of the XV century, which means that it was the center of the vlast.
