Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the problem of how the topic of work and profes-sional life functions in the process teaching Polish language and culture to foreign stu-dents and adults. Thanks to the teaching materials presented in classes, includingtextbooks and exercises, learners reconstruct images of the Polish labour market, as wellas images of Polish men and women who work in various professions, often combiningprofessional duties with childcare responsibilities. Foreigners learn how a job interviewmight proceed, how they should write their CV and a motivational letter. They only learn that the way of establishing an employment relationship in Poland may vary. The articleproposes exercises that are based on authentic legal texts, which introduce specialisedvocabulary and show how an employment contract differs from a contract of mandate anda contract for specific work. The analysis of different types of employment contractsshould enable learners of Polish as a foreign language to function more efficiently in thePolish labour market.
