City Rural Economy in South Dobrudja (1878-1912)

Summary/Abstract: Based on archive sources, published documents, documental collections, materials of the central and local periodicals from that time and the achievements of other authors in the field, the article examines how since 1878 up to 1912 the city rural economy of Southern Dobrudja slowly, but steadily modernizes in the conditions of establishment and development of the capitalist relations. In the towns of Dobritch, Silistra, Tutrakan, Baltchik and Kavarna, as well as in the region and in the state a general tendency confirms the growing importance and the place of the small landowners. The presence of some large-scale landowners in these towns of South- Dobrudja only confirms the varied possibilities in the historical establishment of the process of forming and development of market relations in the field of agriculture.
