Summary/Abstract: The 23rd Slovak Onomastic Conference, held at the Faculty of Arts of Prešov University, brought together experts from Slovakia and neighboring countries to explore traditional and new theoretical constructs in onomastics. With 46 participants and 33 presentations, the conference covered a wide range of topics, from the etymology of personal names in Kyivan Rus to the challenges of bilingualism in Slovak-Hungarian regions. Highlights included discussions on the orthographic issues of proper names, the unique characteristics of legal documents, and the impact of socio-political factors on name changes. The event also commemorated the 90th birthday of the renowned Slovak onomastician Milan Majtán and the 60th anniversary of the Slovak Onomastic Commission. The conference emphasized the importance of both traditional and modern methodologies in onomastic research, fostering fruitful discussions among participants.
