Between Reality and Fantasy: on the Musical Representation of Some Historical Images in Indian Movies

Summary/Abstract: Music has a long tradition of interpreting historical events and personalities. Famous historical figures and important facts feed the imagination of artists. Using history as a basis of artistic works, they show respect for tradition, admiration for extraordinary deeds of iconic persons, search for role models in the glorious past, draw parallels with the present, etc. The interpretations of historical events and the presentation of notable personalities in the arts take place in a wide range between real facts and legend. These multi-directional opportunities to transform history attract a variety of artists who create memorable works. Music plays an important role in these works. The study analyzes and systematizes the historical knowledge in some famous Indian films and the music that constructs a historical context as well as the musical transformation of some historical images.
