Peculiarities concerning participation of a defendant with mental disabilities in criminal proceedings

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the relevant legislation and the case law on its application with regard to the participation of a mentally disabled defendant in criminal proceedings. The paper outlines the shortcomings of the legal system in the Republic of Bulgaria with regard to procedural rights in criminal proceedings of mentally disabled defendants.
