Summary/Abstract: The circular economy represents an innovative and scientifically advanced economic model that emphasizes the efficient reuse of materials from products at the end of their life cycle, significantly reducing the need for new resource extraction. Through the integration of modern applied sciences, such as material innovation, industrial symbiosis, and digital technologies, the circular economy transforms traditional production systems into sustainable networks. This contrasts with the traditional linear economy, which follows a “take-produce-dispose” approach, relying heavily on continuous resource extraction and waste generation without reuse potential. This paper examines the progress of Western Balkan countries in adopting the circular economy, highlighting the application of innovative technologies and scientific methodologies in addressing regional challenges. It identifies key trends, technological advancements, and scientific barriers hindering faster progress while exploring pathways for alignment with the European Union’s circular economy practices and fostering regional convergence.
