Summary/Abstract: The history of the ethnic Germans (especially the Transylvanian Saxons) on the current territory of Romania has been and continues to be an interesting field of scientific research, especially from a historical point of view. The Saxons’ settlement in Transylvania took place more than eight and a half centuries ago, when they were invited by the Hungarian royal crown to defend its new territorial conquests. In this context, history unfolds in a direct diachronic link between the Romanian, Hungarian and Saxon ethnic groups over the centuries up to the present day. The article is dedicated to an outstanding representative of the Transylvanian Saxons (although of Danish origins, he integrated into this evangelical community in Transylvania), on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of his birth. He represents the class of those who contributed to the architectural development of towns by designing secular and clerical buildings, implementing in the new buildings erected in this geographical area the knowledge acquired at specialized institutions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Scharberg went down in history with his projects for low-cost social housing, the “Vitrometan” factory in Mediaș, the former “Scandia” salami factory in Sibiu, as well as for the development plans drafted for numerous towns in the country: Câmpina, Balcic, Constanța, Iași, Sibiu, etc.
