Armed forces and the making of the Soviet state

Summary/Abstract: Armed forces of Russia and the USSR traditionally have been reckoned in russian historical literature as a force entirely devoted to actual authorities and deprived of their political interests. A new approach to identify three types of armed forces - the «traditional», «revolutionary» and «political» taking into account new ideas and approaches made ????by some historians for the last time is proposed in this article. In this case, the soviet armed forces before 1917 and after 1945 should be classifi ed as «traditional», while in the period from 1917 to the late 30’s. - «revolutionary» with a tendency to become «political».
