Holland expedition of Russian army 1799 in context of coalition wars of the end 18th — the beginning 19th centuries: Source study aspect. Preliminary

Summary/Abstract: In 2012 a 3‑year research project 2012 «Holland expedition of Russian army 1799 in context of coalition wars of the end 18th — the beginning 19th centuries: Source study aspect» was begun on the Faculty of History, St. Petersburg State University, in this project members of the Department of Source study on Russian history, Faculty of History, St. Petersburg State University participated. This article is a kind of a review of the studies led by the research collective for 2 years work on the project. The researches have studied various types and kinds of sources on the history of «the Secret expedition » — graphic, memoir, administrative, and also historiography. Processes of preparing and leading of Holland expedition of Russian army during the battles of the 2nd Anti-France coalition in 1798–1800 and the influence of the results of the expedition on development of strategy, tactics, organization, ammunition and supply of Russian army in the period of Napoleonic wars is in the center of attention of researchers participated in the project. The purpose is to find Russian and West-European written, graphic and cartographic sources on history of the expedition, analyze and publish them, to study reports about preparation and leading the expedition in Russian and European press. It is planned, that in result a modern view on preparation and leading of Holland expedition, co-action of the members of the 2nd Anti-France coalition, strategy and tactics of Russian army and navy forces will be produced, the meaning of the expedition’s results for the forthcoming development of military forces of Russia will be held. It is also planned to widen source base of researches on Napoleonic epoch, entry unknown materials into scientific use, develop and experimentally use new methods of research. Study of Military and Navy ministries will be held on the base of funds of Russian state historic archive and other archives and libraries of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Databases on the research topic will be created with use ofmodern computer techniques and information systems, publications in periodic about the expedition will be found and organized in database. In particular, it is planned to create a database «Holland expedition in Russian and foreign periodic». As a result of the scientific research will be collective monograph about Holland expedition 1799 and publication of documents.
