Metaphoric Collocations with Nouns ›Zahl‹ and ›Nummer‹ – A Corpus-Based Semantic Analysis

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to provide insights into the formation of metaphorical collocations involving the nouns ›Zahl‹ and ›Nummer‹ and their equivalents in English and Croatian by using corpus-based semantic analysis. The paper is grounded in the thesis that collocations are motivated word pairings and that conceptual metaphors guide the formation of metaphorical collocations. This validation of this hypothesis highlights the importance of semantical analysis for the understanding of collocations and contributes to refining of the previously imprecise definition of metaphorical collocations in relevant literature.
