Summary/Abstract: Deaf sign language users in developed countries usually also acquire the spoken language of their environment and are, therefore, classified as bimodal bilinguals. In (language) education, however, they are often inappropriately treated as monolinguals, meaning that their (linguistic) abilities are assessed only in one or the other language and their (linguistic) performance is compared with that of monolinguals. This article sheds light on language acquisition in deaf users of Slovenian sign language.
