School libraries and their history

Summary/Abstract: An outline of the history of school libraries in Slovenia is shown in the chapters that follow the modern guidelines for work in school libraries. In insight into the legislation that determined the first steps of school and teachers’ libraries, descriptions of socially and politically managed collection policies, illustration of the initial attempts at the classification of library material, descriptions of the reference and pedagogical work and, last but not least, following the role and importance of school libraries through the time, facilitate a comparison with the present day state of school libraries.
