Summary/Abstract: The article aims to analyse the current debate in the literature regarding the occurrence of the so-called ‘greenwashing’ phenomenon and its significance in the context of sustainable development. The main focus is on presenting the definition as well as the features and forms of this phenomenon, and on showing examples of greenwashing in economic practice based on desk research. Data from the author’s own research were also used to illustrate consumers’ opinions on greenwashing and its consequences in the context of their purchasing choices.
