ERP System as a Process-based Approach to Logistics in the Supply Chain

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to characterize the basic features of the process approach to logistics and to discuss the importance of ERP systems in logistics processes. The matrix of tasks, functions of logistic processes and occurring phenomena in the area of operational logistics management are presented. The possibilities of ERP information systems in creating an interactive environment supporting enterprises in the integration of all processes and their analysis have also been indicated. The article consists of three parts. The first presents the place of logistics in process management. The second one is devoted to the role of ERP in process management in the supply chain. The last one draws attention to the selected ERP system module used in logistics processes. Presented is a set of benefits from the implementation of the ERP Dynamics NAV system on the example of a company from the sector of small and medium enterprises from the chemical industry. According to the study, for the managers participating in the implementation, the described ERP system increases the efficiency of logistics processes from 5% to 35% depending on the scope.
