Summary/Abstract: After more than a quarter of a century of since the first proposition of Amerindianperspectivism by E. Viveiros de Castro (1996) and T. S. Lima (1996), the concept hasreached a prominent position in current sociocultural anthropology, transcendingAmazonian regional ethnology. This article includes a discussion of the intellectualand ethnographic roots of the concept of perspectivism, its subsequent use outsideof anthropology in archeology, and related debates that raised questions regarding theindigeneity of this concept. Moreover, the authors present two ethnographic microstudiesthat describe various applications of perspectivism: as a type susceptible tofurther distinctions and as a descriptive category useful in ethnographic self-reflection.
