Does the Social Deviance Exist?

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses various approaches to understanding deviance in social life: first of all as a function of the perception and assessment of the reality, then as a function of social control, as a function of marking and stigmatization, and finally as a function of evaluative judgments and emotional responses. Moreover, we discuss the notion and the phenomenon of positive deviance within the conceptual framework of civilizational over-normality introduced by Florian Znaniecki, as well as the idea of virtuology understood as the research agenda on positive behaviors and phenomena of the collective life.
