Summary/Abstract: The author analyses "the contributions of the Slovenian National Programme", published in the Slovenian New Review Number 57,1987. As a whole they represent a comprehensive national programme which in the light of sociological and philosophical thoughts about the past, present and future enumerates problems of the Slovenian nation, historical forms of democracy, civil society, legal principles, a Slovenian university, the relationship between generations, liberalism and nationalism, nation and religion, national eradication from the point of view of legitimate positive nationalism, for the political reorganisation of Slovenia and Yugoslavia. The programme was later rationalised on the path to self-determination and independence of Slovenia and its integration with the European Union. This process is considered as the key element for understanding the break-up of Yugoslavia over which the Slovenian and Serbian political elites reached a compromise.
