Summary/Abstract: Better and closer cooperation between the European Union and the United Nations in a spirit of effective multilateralism is one of the priorities of the EU and its member states. This is particularly crucial in the context of the Union’s desire to strengthen its position as a key player in international cooperation, the shaping of transatlantic relations1 and the current plans for reform of the UN system. The significant involvement of the EU and its member states in strengthening the UN and developing an effective and efficient machinery of collaboration between the two organizations is of no mean significance for the future architecture of multilateral cooperation. So it is worth taking a look at the proposals for modification of the EU–UN cooperation framework and the dynamic changes in the international environment in which the idea of effective multilateralism has recently moved centre-stage.
