The influence of special economic zones on the socio-economic development of Lower Silesia in the first decade of the 21st century

Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this paper is an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of special economic zones located in the Lower Silesian region, that is Special Economic Zones for Medium Business of Kamienna Góra, Special Economic Zone of Legnica and Special Economic Zone “INVEST-PARK” of Wałbrzych and their influence on the surrounding socio-economic space. The author analyzed the effects of the zones on the region from 2002 to 2010. There were assessed, among others, the number of valid permits for conducting business in specific zones, incurred capital expenditure, created jobs, capital expenditure in infrastructure construction and the financial results of the companies managing the zones.
