Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the theoretical assumptions for developing of the diachronic material the contemporary appellatives of persons. This paper is lexicographic and is presented according to collaborative research project which is implemented at the Institute of Applied Polish Studies of the Polish Studies Department Warsaw University. The article discusses the issues concerning the dating of the analyzed units, the lexicographic information, the etymology, the infl ective changes, the evolution of meanings, the changes of communicative-styles registers, the sources and the subject literature. It is proposed the new – in the relation of previous studies in the fi eld of etymology – synchro-diachronic approach to the lexical unit, which is the subject description in both lexicographic and etymological aspects.
