Summary/Abstract: The article will reveal how the folk dances practiced in the 15th and 16th century in Western Europe served as a foundation for the development of ballroom dances. I shall review individually each of the ballroom dances described by the first dance masters and dance theoreticians, which subsequently serve as a basis for the establishment of the rules for the performance of classical dances.
