Summary/Abstract: In this article, applying a model of comparative analysis, the author examines the issue of democracy in Serbia in the last decade. Despite its past, since October 5th, Serbia’s democratic transition has made important progress (fair democratic elections, international partnerships, economic reforms). This means that the school of thought according to which Serbia still remains essentialy unreformed is wrong, but this is because its democratic progress is not linked to much to factors such as GDP or political culture. On contrary, instead of the usual socio-economic factors used to explain a state’s transition to democracy, the leading causal variables for explaining relative success of Serbia’s democratic transition are political strategy and influence of the international environment.
