Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes several video pieces by the world-famous video artist Bill Viola in the context of the concept of autopoietic systems. The thesis also presents some key Iconology stagings (Aby Warburg, Erwin Panofsky, Gottfried Boehm). They show that the impact of an artwork is based on the “spaces between the images” created by the structure of the work itself, rather than on the immediate visual suggestions.
