Summary/Abstract: The present article evokes Mihai Negruzzi, general in the Romanian Army, mayor of Iași, royal resident of the Prut region and senator, from the perspective of the writer with the intention of providing a more complete portrait of his activity and interests. After publishing a first volume, Nimic, in 1943, together with his son, Leon Negruzzi, Mihai Negruzzi intended to continue with a second volume of evocations-memories referring to various Romanian personalities or people he had met. Seven handwritten notebooks of this second volume, dated 1955, were donated to the Iași National Museum of Romanian Literature, in 1998, by Mihai Negruzzi’s nieces, Irina Fotiade and Dana Konya-Petrișor. Only a few fragments of these evocations have been published until now and we have selected for this article Mihai Negruzzi’s writings on the Mârzescu family (Gheorghe Mârzescu and his son, Gheorghe Gh. Mârzescu) and those on the poet Mihai Codreanu. The Mârzescu family, represented by Gheorghe Mârzescu and his son, Gheorghe Gh. Mârzescu, was significantly involved in the life of the local community of Iași, in the development and the study of the civil law at the University of Iași, occupying also the position of ministry in various periods. In addition, Gheorghe Gh. Mârzescu was mayor of the city of Iași during the Great War, a period of great difficulty for the city, the region of Moldova and the Romanian people.Mihai Codreanu, cousin of Gheorghe Gh. Mârzescu, is considered to be the best Romanian sonnet writer. He was also director of the National Theatre of Iași, professor and translator; he was awarded the Legion of honours for the best Romanian translation of the play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand.
