Summary/Abstract: The article deals with some initiatives of encouraging the Romanian historiography, during the XIX-th century. Mainly we speak about one of the first attempts to elaborate a synthesis of Romanian history. Hagi Scarlat, Count of Rosetti, settled a reward to be offered to the one who would accomplish such a task. The newspapers debated on this matter and exposed the conditions that a work needed to fulfill in order to win the prize. Some journalists mentioned the attempts done until that moment in this respect, especially those of Mihail Kogălniceanu and Gheorghe Şincai, which were still unequalled. Another common practice during those days was for the authors to announce in the newspapers that they were in the process of writing a history book. In order to be published they needed material support and, for that, subscription lists were opened. These initiatives ended in different ways in each case, some books being published on public or private support, while other projects were abandoned due to lack of financial support or due to various other reasons.
