Summary/Abstract: The contemporary village of Măxineni does not overlap the old hearth of the rural settlement documentary attested as early as 1554. The frequent devastating floods forced its inhabitants to abandon the immediate vicinity of the Siret River (actually the junction between Buzău and Siret rivers). In 1878-1879, they drew back for almost 9 kilometers, towards west, where they had long noticed that the terrain, somewhat more elevated, could protect them against such hardships. Starting from this natural environment, the 2009 archaeological researches in the area of the junction between the Buzău and Siret rivers, close to the ruins of the Măxineni monastery, had as a general objective to identify the proofs of late medieval living, i.e. of material evidence regarding the old hearth of the village of Măxineni.
