Cetatea Albă in the Romanian historiography (II)

Summary/Abstract: The author continues his brief research on the scholars’ contributions which clarify the history of “Cetatea Albă”. He had started his analysis with the historians of the modern period to continue with contemporary ones and he commented on them from the angle of the Romanian historiography. All the elements of analysis and synthesis which had been converted into rich and diverse material regarding the most important mediaeval fortification on the Romanian territory, by specialists such as: Gheorghe Şincai, Gheorghe Brătianu, Nicoale Iorga, Şerban Papacostea, Victor Spinei and Ştefan Andreescu, to name but a few; were reviewed by author. He also highlighted that the role and position of “Cetatea Albă” in the epoch in which it was part of the Moldavian territory became favourite subjects of reasearch while precisely that epoch is preferred by the researchers in the domain of the Romanian historical sciences. "Istoriografia modernă Cu apariţia Hronicii românilor şi a mai multor neamuri, Gheorghe Şincai oferă, din perspectiva Şcolii Ardelene, prima istorie completă şi unitară a poporului român în care acesta este privit ca un corp unic. Vom descoperi aici, într-o lucrare ce se bazează pe o vastă erudiţie, pe parcurgerea a mii de documente şi a zeci de izvoare narative, câteva referiri şi la Cetatea Albă. Cum era de aşteptat, apelând la izvoare externe într-un număr ce depăşeşte cu mult pe cel folosit de Dimitrie Cantemir, autorul Hronicii1 începe şirul menţiunilor privitoare la Cetatea Albă cu înţelegerea de la Lublin între craiul Poloniei, Vladislav Jaghello şi regele Ungariei Sigismund de Luxemburg (15 martie 1412). Gheorghe Şincai, sprijinindu-se pe Dlugoş, Cromer şi Enghel, arată: ...aşa au aşezat ... ca Bialogrodul cu o gimătate se remînă lui Vladislav şi Chilia cu ceaialaltă gimătate lui Sigismund "[...]
