Summary/Abstract: In 2023, Temesvár was one of the European Capitals of Culture. The program series, planned for 2021, was postponed at the city`s request due to the pandemic. At the time the city was awarded the prestigious title, two keywords were incorporated into the program series: multiculturalism and light. The European Capital of Culture program in Temesvár provides an excellent platform for linguistic, semiotic, anthropological, and intercultural studies. We examine the linguistic landscape, events, and visual presentation (posters, social media platforms, PR materials, etc.) of the cultural programs with an interdisciplinary approach through language and other semiotic signs. This allows us to explore multiculturalism and light motifs in a multidimensional way. Our research focuses on the following questions: (a) What are the means of ethnicity, religion, language, and other forms of coexistence in the events and their representations (posters, media, website, etc.) of the European Capital of Culture? (b) What tools play a role in creating the multiculturalism of the program series? (c) How do linguistic features appear in events? (d) How do the light effects and lighting motifs reflect the city of the firsts? (e) How is the much-publicized multiculturalism of Temesvár reflected by the linguistic landscapes of the districts where the European Capital of Culture events take place?
