Summary/Abstract: Unconscious information processing has become the recent concern of many researchers. The unconscious is considered to have powerful valences for information processing, and is not just a drive. In this study, building on Ellis' (1994) theory, we evaluated the impact of the absolutistic „must”, cognitive schema in information processing, which may be congruent or incongruent with the schema, voluntarily or involuntarily. Results indicated that explicit and implicit schema-congruent processing was significantly influenced by the schema compared to unconscious and involuntary schema-incongruent processing.
