Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the Ombudsman's contribution to controlling the actions of the Romanian public administration. As a public authority with greater autonomy and independence, the Ombudsman can be seen as the guardian of the principle of legality, democracy and respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Romanian people. The author traces the evolution of this institution in the Romanian Constitution of 1991, while clarifying its role and specific features, to enable the “People's Lawyer” to ward off the ills of public administration through more in-depth work and the possibility of proposing legislative reforms.
