Summary/Abstract: This article is the second part of a series devoted to literary realisms ofthe turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. It focuses on hysterical realism emergingfrom postmodernist literature and evolving into the New Sincerity. This trend isdiscussed primarily on the example of David Foster Wallace’s work. First, the authorreconstructs the concept of hysterical realism, which was introduced into literarycriticism by James Wood, who sharply criticized the novels included in this trend. In the following sections, the author tries to place hysterical realism in relation tothe postmodern literature that preceded it and to indicate on what principles thiscurrent can, contrary to Wood, be regarded as realist literature.
