Summary/Abstract: This paper will discuss the Montenegrin path to the European Union, the advantages and disadvantages of membership, as well as the progress of Montenegro so far. The entire process from the renewal of Montenegro’s independence in 2006 until the last report of the European Commission on Montenegro in 2021 will be analyzed and presented. The author of the paper pays special attention to the foreign policy path of Montenegro after the restoration of independence, with special emphasis on the process of European integration. The paper will talk about the path that Montenegro has taken in the process of transformation of society, as well as about the numerous reforms that it has achieved, and about those that are still waiting. Also, the author will give concluding remarks regarding the challenges and perspectives that await Montenegro in the field of achieving its key foreign policy goal — EU membership.
