Summary/Abstract: The introductory chapter of the book in progress, dedicated to the lyric poetry of Đurа Jakšić, explains the manner of its reception ranging from the first biographical study of Svetislav Vulović (1882), through the immanent analysis of Ljubomir Nedić (1893), interwar reviews on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Jakšić’s death by Milan Bogdanović and Svetislav Vulović (1928), to the literary-historical approaches in the second half of the twentieth century by Miodrag Popović (1972) and Jovan Deretić (1999). The paper shows that all these approaches, which emphasise Jakšić as the most distinctive Serbian Romantic poet and the most personal and sincere poet, are more or less openly based on the notion of the identity of the poet and the man, taking the opus as the sole interpretive object. So, the paper pleads for an approach that, starting from a careful interpretation of individual poems, on the basis of their differences will shape the idea of the opus as a complex whole and Đurа Jakšić as a Romantic poet who went through various developmental stages.
