Summary/Abstract: The characteristics of political discourse, presented in the article includes the following aspects: the occurrence of specialist vocabulary; vocabulary from the lexical area of politics; colloquial and emotional character of the message; expression of various types of values; symptoms of linguistic awareness. The author of the article aims at depicting certain linguistic mechanisms and tendencies which reflect the impact of social-political reality on the shape of political-journalistic speech.
